Everyone has his first. As I recall, I got my first hockey trading card in summer of 2010. It was 2008-09 Dinamo Riga Team Issue #15 Mārtiņš Cipulis. I knew that sports trading cards exist before, but I've never had any interest in them or had seen one of them. Card trading isn't popular in Latvia. As far as I know, there were some team issued cards in Latvia, but the information about those cards is very limited. Fortunately, the KHL appeared in 2008 and thereby hockey trading cards.
Mārtiņš Cipulis is the first and the only from Cēsis, Latvia, who plays as a professional. His debut in National team of Latvia was in 9th of April in 2001 against France, game ended 2:2 (1:0; 1:1; 0:1).
The fun story about this card is that my mother gave it to me and if only I knew where she got the card, it wouldn't be so fun. The story about Mārtiņš Cipulis is that he is a local from Cēsis, Latvia. We live almost in the same neighborhood - Google maps tells me that the distance between our houses is 650 m or 8 min walking. Mārtiņš, her sister, me and my mother all learned in the same school, Mārtiņš sister and my mother were classmates. That's how local it is.
