I couldn't even remember when I started using Google Spreadsheets, it was way before I started my homepage and I never had any issue or what so ever. Until recently I discovered that my embedded Google Map isn't showing in the page. When I logged into Google Maps to check out what is the matter - there was nothing, literally nothing. Well I was shocked, I take a look in Google Drive trash and the map isn't there either so I Googled it up and I found up that files and even pictures are disappearing far too often. Of course the next step for me was to check if my spreadsheets were all there. And they weren't so I checked the trash again and they weren't there either...
In the middle of that I found some Google Help Forum thread where you can report this issue by pressing on a link and I was contacted by someone or something, I couldn't really tell if it was human or a robot because of those mails. Long story short - it wasn't really helpful and I took the matter in my own hands.
How to retrieve lost Google Drive file (Spredsheet, Document)
As most of my Google Spreadsheets are embedded they are still visible on my website so that meant something. Because when the Spreadsheet, Document or similar is deleted form Google Drive completely it just shows that it is deleted and isn't available. So I started the operation "F Google Drive" to save my Spreadsheets and my hard work. If you have your file embedded in your website or have you ever shared your file with a link there is a way to retrieve it.
All I did was, I cut out the link and pasted in browser address bar and when I deleted the last part after the dash - I was forwarded to my Google Spreadsheet with a dialogue box that this Spreadsheet was in the trash which couldn't be found there previously. And by clicking Restore it went back to what it should have been.
As I went through all of my Spreadsheets I noticed that there was a total of 13 lost Spreadsheets which were published and I could retrieve 12 of them, only one showed up as already deleted but I was able to copy information to MS Excel. And those were the Spreadsheets which were published but I have lost some of the Spreadsheets which weren't published.
After realizing how unreliable Google Disk is I saved all my Spreadsheets on my computer as a backup and you should do the same. And I really hope that this will help anyone who has the same issues with Google Drive, take care.
